Welcome! I'm glad you are here.

What will you find here? Help in knowing God more deeply. By working to help you, and by listening to you, I also learn to know God better.

What does "knowing God" mean? Jesus told us in just a few words:

Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. On that day many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?" Then I will declare to them, "I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers."

Matthew 7:21‐23 NRSVNew Revised Standard Version Bible by National Council of Churches USA, 1989

The "evildoers" in this parable accomplish good works in the name of God. They intellectually understand some things about God. Yet God says, "I never knew you." Knowing God is a two way street. You know Him. He knows you. It is a relationship. If you know God, you will do His will, not just stuff you think is good. We are not slaves. We are children who love our Father and want to do the things He asks us to do.

The intellectual part of knowing God is called Theology. It is the attempt to understand as much about God as we are able. Few Christians are theologians, but all Christians have personal experiences with God to share:

Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and reverence.

First Peter 3:15‐16 NRSVNew Revised Standard Version Bible by National Council of Churches USA, 1989

Sometimes the defense requires sharing your own experiences with God. Other times it may be sharing theological or philosophical ideas. My goal, with this website, is to provide a gentle introduction to Christian theology and its philosophical underpinning.

Who Am I?

Picture of author.

I'm smiling in the picture because I'm engaged in my favorite hobby, landscape photography, and I'm looking at the wife of my youthProverbs 5:18[1] (we were married in 1972).

In school I studied physics and mathematics, subjects I still love. I learned about the structure of the physical universe, the formation and evolution of stars, and the behavior of subatomic particles. Much of my career involved the microelectronics industry. The feature size of the circuits that drive your computers and cell phones are now as small as five nanometers (about fifty times the size of a water molecule.)

In all of this, from the largest to the smallest scales, I see the hand of God. He created it all. He gave it a logical structure. He created us in His image, and gave us the ability to understand, in part, the logical structure He gave Nature.
